The SPEEDO League competion is the most important club
competion held in the UK. The SPEEDO League is the only national league competion in the United Kingdom. The UK is split into 7 regions and includes teams from Scotland, England & Wales. The regional leagues are held in October, November and December through out the country with a grande final being held the following year.

Epsom District compete in the SPEEDO League South East Region. There are 3 Divisions, Premier, 1st and 2nd. In our region alone there are 70 clubs with more than 450 clubs in total taking part up and down the country.

It is our aim, over the next couple of years, to gain promotion into the 1st Division which will take a lot of hard work from all concerned. This years start was one of the best we have had for some time and was only due to the excellent performances and team spirit on Saturday. We finished a very creditable 3rd place against some very tough competion.

The next round will be on Saturday 13th November with the final round being held on December 11th.

Due to the importance of the SPEEDO League it is essential that we field our very strongest team. To field our stongest team we have to select swimmers who may only swim in a relay team or who may only get one swim during the evening. Each and every event whether it is an individual event or a relay event is just as important. Every single point counts. It is therefore essential all swimmers who are selected make every effort to attend as your role in the team, whether for a single relay event of for a number of swims, is vital to the success of Epsom District S.C.

The SPEEDO League is the only time that we ask swimmers to represent the club when they may only get one swim during the evening. At all other times throughout the year we ensure all swimmers get at least 2 swims in every gala. The only exception to this is when we have very young or new swimmers competing for the first time when more than one swim may be inappropriate.

Up and down the country there are swimmers desperate to represent ther club in the SPEEDO League, as for many this is the most important swim of the year. Due to the importance of the league many of the clubs will also take along reserves in each age group to ensure the very best team is available in case of any mishaps.

Congratulations all the swimmers who swam on Saturday 9th October. I look forward to another successful evening in round 2 on November 13th.
